The Cruciality of Digital Media

Without realizing it, we live and breathe digital media. Think about it. Everyday, the first thing almost anyone does is wake up with an alarm, normally from their cellphone alarm clock, and they check all their texts, social media, etc. from what they could have missed while sleeping last night. Then, they probably go to the bathroom or have a cup of coffee. Both of these almost positively involve their cellphones. They get ready for the day, maybe while watching a TV show on a streaming service or listening to music from their cellphones. Then the day has begun and they are off to work or school and there cellphones are right there with them to journey through the day in their purse or their back pocket. Cell phones are probably the biggest leading example of digital media in today's society.

We are consumers of what society feeds us. Whether this is political, social, or even technological. I remember in about sixth grade when a new Apple iPhone had come out. Everyone in middle school just needed this new device. It made you cool and fancy and you would flaunt it and show it off if you had it. Middle schoolers were thinking this way only because we did not know any better! Digital media becoming such a huge part of our everyday lives is both a blessing and a curse. Yes, it is convenient and helpful and easy, but it also makes us lazy, anti-social, and almost addicted. I can confidently yet shamelessly say that I am addicted to my phone. I will not leave home without it. What if something happens? What if I miss a Snapchat? What if I cannot text my boyfriend? We are all just sheep consuming what we are fed. This is true for so many different aspects of our lives, but it is most definitely true in our technological lives. I am not against digital media being such a big part of our daily lives, but I am just explaining the importance it holds to us that is scarily true.
