My Relationship With Digital Media

I never truly understood what digital media was until the very first class this past week. Digital media is all around us, every day. It can range from obvious things like our cell phones, to more complex things like software and coding. I never would have thought I would ever take a digital media course in college, but here we are. I always enjoyed working on a computer. I used to go on Microsoft Word and write my name in all the cool different fonts and change the colors and give them shadows. I then progressed to PowerPoint, where I would make funny proposals like how why I believe a puppy would make our family better and a collection of memes from high school. I always loved to be creative whether it was doing musical theater when I was younger, or making infographics later in high school. Creativity was always a strongpoint that ran in my family. My grandma had me doing arts and crafts from what felt like when I was born. My mom is a hairdresser and hair colorist. My uncle is a carpenter. This creativity is so strong in my family, even in me!
I am excited to see where this digital media course brings me. I hope to create new things and build my skills in the digital world. I always thought I was good with computers, but I know there is much more to digital media than computers alone. I am eager to hear others' ideas and opinions in the classroom setting and use them to help my own knowledge grow. This course feels like it will be a challenging one, but only in a fun, learning type of way rather than a brutal, torturous type of way. Here's to a new semester and my first semester at UT!
